The main goal of California State University Bakersfield's Edible garden is to not only feed the students, but to teach students and the community in hopes they will take these tools and practices with them in their every day lives. Upon investigating information relating to the garden, researchers have noted there is a much deeper need for the Edible Garden as well: 

• decrease the separation between college students and healthy habits.

• An informal site for learning, relaxing, and coming together as a campus.

• Bringing together the community of Bakersfield.

• eliminate the food hardship that occurs in some community families.
